Listening, learning and sharing - this evening was an evening full of inspiring conversations and hope. 

On the 29th of March 2025, honorary Alster Lockkeepers Luisa Neubauer and Boris Herrmann invited the Alster Lockkeepers committee, former Alster Lockkeepers, friends, family and famous faces from within the climate movement for a special boat ride down the Elbe to Entenwerder, where they spent a mild early summer evening exchanging inspiring conversations under the motto of a Climate Get Together.

After sailing approximately 100,000 nautical miles, completing two circumnavigations of the globe, and finishing six transatlantic crossings, the Malizia - Seaexplorer is now being handed over to Team Francesca Clapcich Powered By 11th Hour Racing, who are setting their sights on the 2028 Vendée Globe.

The Imoca "Malizia - Seaexplorer" and skipper Boris Herrmann received the award for Best German Offshore Yacht 2025 at the eighteenth German Offshore Award on the evening of 6 March 2025. The ceremony took place at Hamburg City Hall and honoured the sensational 2nd place in the New-York Vendée Race 2024.

After a short but freezing delivery, complete with dolphin escorts, our beloved boat has returned to her home harbour, Lorient. What’s next? The team is already hard at work as Malizia - Seaexplorer is already back into the shed for a well-earned post Vendée Globe refit. All the details about the winter refit plan here.

One week ago, Boris Herrmann set foot on solid ground after 80 days at sea in the Vendée Globe. But now that the race is over, what’s happening within the team? How is Boris recovering, and what’s in store for the 2025 season? Read on to find out more about the race debrief and everything that’s happening right now.

One Week After The Vendée Globe Arrival

The Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) is set to write a new chapter in its sporting history as it prepares to compete for the first time in the Admiral’s Cup, one of the world’s most prestigious sailing competitions. Team Malizia will play a key role in this challenge, with the Monegasque crew including Pierre Casiraghi, our team founder and Vice-president of the Club, Boris Herrmann and Will Harris. Cole Brauer, who is being mentored by Boris through The Magenta Project will also join the crew.

Children in Hamburg envisioned a utopian future for Hamburg, where all problems had been solved.

Across our sails, the message is clear: This is “A Race We Must Win - Climate Action Now!” This mission defines every aspect of Team Malizia’s efforts. While Boris races at sea, we continue the race on land. Beyond sailing and collecting crucial Ocean data to help scientists better understand climate change, we are also deeply invested in Ocean and climate education through our Malizia My Ocean Challenge program.

This Wednesday night, Boris Herrmann crossed the finish line of the Vendée Globe 2024-2025 in 12th place at 23:18 CET after 80 days, 10 hours, 16 minutes and 41 seconds at sea. Today, the Team Malizia skipper got to celebrate this great achievement and experience the iconic and emotional channel passage with his team and the cheering crowds of Les Sables d’Olonne.

The second solo lap is complete: Boris Herrmann has finished the Vendée Globe 2024-2025, his second time racing in the iconic solo, non-stop, unassisted round-the-world race. He crossed the storm line offshore Les Sables d’Olonne this Wednesday night at 23:18 local time (22:18 UTC) in 12th place after 80 days, 10 hours, 16 minutes and 41 seconds at sea.

Now sailing in very rough weather conditions in the Bay of Biscay, Boris Herrmann is expected to cross the finish line in Les Sables d’Olonne this evening or during the night. Due to the weather, he will cross the virtual ‘storm line’ and we don’t know yet when Boris will be able to enter the channel. Get ready to follow the arrival.

Off the coast of Cape Finisterre, Boris Herrmann and Sam Davies are holding on and persevering despite epic conditions. They are expected to cross the finish line in Les Sables d’Olonne tomorrow evening or overnight. The upside? Experiencing the storm just as the residents of western France are this week. As we’re swept by gusts, drenched by relentless rain, standing in puddles, and staring at the angry sky, we get a small taste (just a hint) of what the skippers are enduring offshore. It offers us a (very vague) glimpse into the chaos that Boris and Sam Davies are navigating through.

Last week, Boris Herrmann was on two boats: sailing the Malizia - Seaexplorer in the Vendée Globe and attending BOOT Düsseldorf - the latter not a floating vessel, but a yachting and watersports congress. Representing the team, accepting an award, and announcing a new partnership - it was a busy day for Team Malizia at BOOT Düsseldorf.
